Ocean Eyes

Ocean EyesI was photographing this seal sleeping from a distance when in the distance a glacier calved. The sounds startled us both, as the seal looked up and open his eyes I snapped this photo. One of my favourite things about photographing wildlife is that is always leaves me with questions, pushing me to learn more. As I drove the zodiac back to the expedition ship I was in a childlike wonder weaving between the icebergs. Prize Sizes: Sizing Guide Page

It always amazes me how well sound travels and upon closer inspection

I grabbed my camera

as the temperature dipped below freezing with the clear evening sky

just a few months old swimming alongside their mothers

area many years ago before settlers came to this area

Their next surface almost made me jump

Some of my favourite days on the west coast of Vancouver Island are the foggy ones

We could hear the occasion kingfisher buzzing around the estuary and the whistle of the eagles

then every so often you get a little reminder to put the grander in to scale

Time slowed down and as the light drew in I felt our other senses were heightened

Mark took this image in a remote inlet along the Northwest Passage where hundreds of Belugas come to socialise and exfoliate their white skin in the shallow river mouths
