Barred StrikeI spotted a Barred Owl sitting up in a deciduous tree in the late winter afternoon hunting. Waiting patiently sitting in my car I waited for it to dive on prey beneath the snow. After about five minutes the owl didn't disappoint.

Ripples dance in mirrored light—

sudden launch—

their feathers blending seamlessly into their frosty surroundings

The Owl continued to hunt right up to the start of totality

I hope that by capturing and showing these moments can inspire others to appreciate wildlife that we pass by every day

I marveled at the quality of light

Field whispers to dusk

When it spots its prey
