munich swordThe sword is a fine example of a German military cut and thrust weapon with a swept hilt, carried by the Munich Town Guard around 1600. The slightly shorter blade and stout hilt were well suited to breaking up street fights or tavern brawls, tasks that the town guard frequently performed. The sword has been designed for practical use. Several examples of this sword may be found in private and public collections, including one in the Wallace Collection
