宮西達也1956年生於日本靜岡縣。日本大學藝術學系美術科畢業。曾從事人偶劇的舞台美術、平面設計等工作，現為日本的繪本人氣作家。 1970年出版了第一本圖畫書，至今已創作超過六十本繪本。著有《我爸爸超厲害》（維京國際）、《你看起來很好吃》（三之三）、《超神奇洗髮精》（小魯文化）…等膾炙人口的作品。文字圖畫傳達出獨具的幽默風格、無厘頭的想法以及溫暖的畫風，也創造出許多個性鮮明的角色，深受大、小讀者的喜愛。活潑又充滿活力的宮西達也是說故事高手，他走過日本許多城市，希望透過演講及說故事，讓更多人認識繪本、喜歡繪本。
