Tyrrell's Sacred Sites HVD Semillon 2013The HVD Vineyard is one of Tyrrell's sacred sites, a vineyard on its own roots (ungrafted) which is more than 100 years old. In 2004, Tyrrell's decided that if the vines were still healthy and producing great wine after 100 years, then those wines deserved to be made and bottled individually, and so the Sacred Sites range was born. "I love the pear, sliced apple and mineral aromas here. Full body, tangy fruit and a tight finish. Focused and balanced.

This is a bright purple coloured wine – plum jam colour even

though arguably the interest in it has skyrocketed over the past 3-5 years

An intense and concentrated wine with rich meaty and slightly gamey flavours

between Angaston and Keyneton

But there's no denying

It then spends nine or ten months in barrel with around 30% new

still so tense

Again you'd bet that it will age well

Best from 2007 through 2015

Their vineyard lies in the river bed of the Wairau River and is planted to Chardonnay
