Icy Shadows

Icy ShadowsA spectacular iceberg dwafed our ship as we pulled into this Antarctic Bay. Whilst out on the zodiac, unpredictable katabatibc winds blew over the glacier and intensified to over 60 knots, almost hurricane force. Whilst waiting for the ship to reposition, I drove the zodiac over to the the lee of this iceberg to seek some shelter from the brutal wind and building seas. As I got closer, I saw this beautiful ice formation and a penguin there also hiding

he spotted this iceberg ahead

Today I headed out in the opposite direction

he waited patiently for hours to capture this backlit shot as this Arctic Hare was feeding

She moves gracefully but efficiently

But on closer inspection you can see that the imagine is flipped 180’ and its actually is a rare hunt

There are not many landscapes wild and vast enough to make a 30 foot male killer whale look tiny but Antartica certainly does it well

The ship turned 10 degrees to starboard to avoid the iceberg and as the ship passed quite close

This heart shaped exhalation came out of a humpback just before it dove and until this day

bubbles of air depending on the destiny of the ice we get to see many different colours like these outer-worldly blues ones
