Made with 100% pure new wool tartan fabric, the Buchan Modern is a classic green and black based tartan with red checks. The earliest Buchans on record date back to 1200 and before. Major General Thomas Buchan, was born at Auchmacoy in 1641, led the forces of King James II during rebellions of 1689. Made at Lochcarron's mill in the heart of the Scottish Borders.

The Baillie’s were first recorded in 1311 when William de Baillie appears as a jury member at an inquest concerning forfeited lands

The tartan was later adopted by Earl Haig's family since he was also a Colonel of the battalion and hence known as the Haig Check

which is now fairly common throughout Scotland
