CrystalsOn a cold February afternoon, a Short eared Owl perches atop a snow covered fence post. Its golden eyes scan the wintry landscape, sharp and discerning. Suddenly, with a graceful leap, it launches into the crisp air. Snow crystals scatter like tiny diamonds in the strong light, dancing on the breeze as the owl takes flight, its wings a silent whisper against the vast fieldscape.

Deep russets and muted golds adorned the landscape

Gentle hues of colour kiss—

Snowy owl skims amber field—

shadows lengthened and the air grew still

His feathers were fluffed against the biting cold

at home in this serene environment

with its mottled feathers blending seamlessly with the earthy tones of fall

each wingbeat a brushstroke on the canvas of the cooling air

white expanse

Morning whispers rise

when I spotted a Northern Harrier hen land on a weathered fence post
