My plan was to use the base of the derrick in West Texas as a platform on which to play a parody of those early dirty days of wildcatting and I knew Ty would kill his look

We set about building a structure in a black panther’s 4-acre sanctuary in Dinokeng

is a challenge and looking over scores of old rodeo images
but that is for the viewer to interpret
filmed some sequences at the Willow Springs race circuit outside LA which retains an authentic 1950s vibe
My goal was to tell a story around this unlikely combination and my instincts were for it to be simmering with energy
